No government in the world can and should not provide all essential services to its citizens. Competition is welcomed in this sector because it can provide a solution to many of the problems in the indian eduction systems. The greatest problem is the scarcity of good teachers due to the low salaries. The foreign universities can improve this by inprovign the demand for good techers and as the demand would increase so would the price.
Even in great indian educations institues like IITs and IIMs i belive that the quality of teaching and education is not at par with the best american universities. These institues are great mostly because of the people who get in are the creame de le cream of india.
Government should encourage foreign investment in such sectors where it can get in foreign investment. Anyways there are a lot of students coming to the US , UK for education if the same quality of education is available in india at a much cheaper rate then a lot of money leaving the coutnry can be saved. Also in the long run the students from the US.UK can also choose to come to india and study as theu quality of education would be comparable and at a much cheaper cost …. This would give the indian students much needed international exposure.
In the long India may even have the potential to become a significant education hub in the world.
